This antique full leather bound King James Bible is armoured with metal work at the corners, clasp and latch that holds the book shut, (a lovely feature which is extremely rare being present on fewer than five percent of ancient Bibles.) The book has a hubbed spine which has a very long time ago been re-spined with fresh strong leather and Gold-stamped. It was stamped inappropriately "Book of Common Prayer" rather than stamped appropriately "The Holy Bible" as the Common Book of Prayer is bound in front as a preface to the Bible. The Bible contains: a PSALTER which is what the church used before modern hymnals were introduced in the 1700's and has the five line musical stave with notes above selected passages. It is essentially the Book of Psalms with wording restructured so as to be more conducive to singing aloud.
THE GENEALOGY is an exquisitely beautiful and ornately illustrated pages long "Family Tree of Man. " This wonderful feature traces every generation of the first four thousand years of mankind from Adam and Eve through Noah, David to Joseph, Mary and Christ without missing a single generation.
THE APOCRYPHA are ancient Jewish texts rich devotionally , they provide the proper interpretation of the New Testament. There is no doubt Jesus and his earliest Jewish followers were well acquainted with these works.
The Bible is Ruled in Red, handwritten notes in the Bible show that Richard Booth and Margaret Booth once owned the Bible and their four children's names, birthdates are written inside (1655-1663). There is also a Latin inscription, signed, which translates "My father left this in the Tabernacle August 22nd 1647 R.R"
It is complete, there are no pages missing and is 99% legible (The final 3 leaves have some damage to the paper).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SPINE IS WRONG THIS IS A COMPLETE HOLY BIBLE NOT A BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER. (A mistake during the historic rebinding)
I could not find an exact match due to title page dating, in Herbert’s classification. However The size and the similarity in the dates of said title pages makes me think it is probably Herbert 572/573
